The Name of the Doctor

You know we have had a rather interesting season finale for a show that has been around for 50 years when...

This Guy

And This Girl

Can interact with each other in the same scene.  We have come a long way in cinematography, and to have William Hartnell's Doctor, on Gallifrey (which was not really shown nor discussed util the end of the Second Doctor's run), with Clara Oswin Oswald.  I was proud of this episode from the very beginning I guess you could say.  For a storyline that is going to be wrapped up in the 50th Anniversary Special, to have interaction with the very first Doctor was the best way to kick it off.

You will probably love it as much as I did.  We also get to see Susan briefly in that scene to.  The feels man, the feels.  I always told people who knew of Classic Who that one day, she would come back, yes, she would come back.  Until then, no fears, no regrets, no anxieties.  We would just go forward in watching Doctor Who, and hope that I am not mistaken in my hopes.  Hello Susan, hello my dear.

I will not discuss a lot of it, for spoilers sake (except for the kind of sort of big reveal, but I think the journey to that point is what makes it epic, plus, it's plastered all over the intarwebz already), but this was I think a fantastic way to kick off a two parter, even if we now have to wait until November 23rd.  This episode, in my honest opinion, was full of win.

River Song returned, which lead to a few heart-wrenching moments.  River sometimes reminds me of a certain somebody I know, and this same person remarks to me about how I sometimes act like the Eleventh Doctor.  We got to see the Great Intelligence again.  I always tend to remark how the Great Intelligence was kind of sort of equated to the Old One Yog-Sothoth in the Doctor Who novels, so seeing the Great Intelligence in the form of Doctor Simeon, to me, after knowing that fact, is a bit weird.  Yog-Sothoth (and the Great Intelligence in the old series) is supposed to be a conglomeration of iridescent, glowing spheres, but hey, with great power come great abilities to look like whatever the hell you want.

And, spoilerific section time, skip to the bold ASDFGHJKL; if you don't want to read (and try to avoid the image):

John Hurt playing a regeneration of the Doctor that we haven't scene before was a bit of a surprise.  When I heard he was going to be in the 50th, I assumed a third actor playing the First Doctor, but seeing him as a Valeyardesque not-so-good-guy Doctor was, shall I say, curious... very curious.

And the in general demeanor, shows a man wracked by guilt.  I can't wait to see where they go with this.

ASDFGHJKL;

I hope that was enough spaces.

Anyway, if you haven't caught the episode yet, you can probably find it online somewhere, or you can wait until Thursday to watch it (for us BBCA people that is, I don't know for the UK).  You won't regret it.

I guess the only bad thing I could say about the episode is how I feel like certain parts were a bit rushed, and that I would have liked to have seen more Classic Doctors interact with Clara, beyond the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) glancing at her in the rear-view mirror of Bessie.

That's all I have to say.

 P.S. And yes, I have a celeb-crush on Jenna Louise-Coleman

Klaatu Barada Nik*cough*

There is an Army of Darkness RPG...

If I had more money in my pockets, I would be so there!

Funny enough, writing this at like 1 AM, in the morning, not too long ago I was talking to my sister about how much of a shame it is that I haven't seen this movie in such a long time.  Now, not only do I need to find the movie, I need to get this game.  If I do fork out the money to buy it, hopefully I don't have to recite some magic charm before picking it up, I might not say the words exactly like I was told, leading to the Lehigh Valley being overrun with the undead.  Let's just hope the Clerics are up to the challenge, just in case.

But I'm ready, I'm ready to play this game and to kick zombie ass!

Are all men from the Lehigh Valley loudmouth braggarts?  Nope.  Just me baby, just me.

The Goddess of Awesome Did a Thing!

Hey guy, guess what?  This month is National Poetry Month.  Obviously I have just discovered this for the most part; just like how yesterday was that one day where people make practical jokes on each other.

Today started out like any other, I watch doctor who, do some chores around the house, and talk to Destiny.  Well, when she came home she made a video entry into Gabriel Gadfly's Poetry Matters movement.  No sooner she does this that not only is her video on Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook, but now, on my blog as well.  I think her entry is amazing, and I'm sure you all have guessed how I feel about her, so here is her video:

I am so proud of her, and her involvement in Poetry Matters and Poetry Month.  I to, think that poetry matters.  I might not read a lot of it, and what I do write might not be the best, but I think poetry is beautiful and important.

In fact *puts on thoughtful specs and sits on a chair next to a fireplace* I shall post for you one of my own:

A Rhythmic Poem about Memories

On my darkest days
I look back
Take a breath
And pull out my box of wishes
My wish box includes
Ticket stubs
Token coins
And memories of hope and love
The light in my heart
Shines brighter
Burns longer
Because you are my true treasure
The box has more than
Ticket stubs
Token coins
It holds you and me together

Of Home Made Pizza and Tiesto

So this past weekend was my monthly trip to hang out with Destiny, which was looked forward to so much more than every little kid that looks forward to presents on Christmas.  Not only was I able to spend time with the most amazing woman, nay, person that I know, but I was also able to be in Philadelphia, this city I have come to love so much, in all its little quirks, despite all the dark and festering sins and crimes (and now I am thinking of the song Graveyard Shift from the never-finished Batman musical, lyrics by Jim Steinman).  I guess, despite being born and raised in the country, I think I might be a city boy at heart, then again I am a reviving pool of Greco-Roman faith and the coolness of the the Roaring 20's.

So after parking and walking to where she stays, all the little anxieties (i.e. idiotic and aggressive drivers, if I left my incense burning or my space heater on lol) just melted away.  Friday began for me at that moment, despite waking up earlier and watching Boston Legal with mom.  So we hung out, watched more Sherlock (we polished off the whole series so far.  Steve Moffat, you did it.... again)

Cumberbatch, Moffat, and Smith.  And by again, I mean
work on a well done series.
Saturday we went to the Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel so she could finish up some work for her one class and to just spend the day walking around especially to see the butterflies.  Was hard to get a picture of them, especially the Blue Morpho, which was her favorite.  The red one flew away right when the picture was taken, but then again, we got a nice picture of a butterfly in flight.  Afterwards we went to the Tiesto concert.  Keep in mind that my usual music is the likes of rock and metal, with maybe spatterings of other genres thrown in.  Do I like techno and EDM (electronic dance music)?  Yeah, I've listened to a bit before, like Deadmau5, but nothing major.  I was once going to go to an EDM/Techno festival with a few friends, including Wallet Girl, but the plans fell through.  So Saturday was my first major introduction to the genre you can say.  I went with an open mind, and I really did enjoy myself.  I danced for almost five hours straight, and the Liacouras Center had a place to get my boneless wings.  By Jove, I got to have my boneless wings!

Sunday we polished off the rest of Sherlock, and she made pasta for dinner, after which I had to leave.  She had plans for that night and I wanted to get home before the special on the Second Doctor came on (made it just in time).  This is, of course, a cursory overview of the weekend.  There are always personal moments that one treasures, and become selfish and not want to share them with others, even if its just words on a web page.  Those written memories are saved for just me and her in our own version of the River Song Journal.

And I'm sure this is what it will look like within a few years
She got me the journal on my birthday and wrote down the memories of the past few times we hung out, and a few other things as well, and I do the sameEach visit we pass off the journal to the other, having it be their turn to have to read and write in.  This is my turn now and I have begun to write in it.  It is an amazing work this journal, and a birthday gift that I treasure a lot.  And yes, Destiny and I are very close indeed. :-)

One last thing.  I decided to add an awesome page on the side bar there.  Another blog, which should be an answer to just how well done I think Sherlock is.
